"Life on a Lucky Star is brighter by far than life on the moon you see." So begins the catchy tune in the book "Life On a Lucky Star."
Yankee Doodle Dandy and Yankee Doodle Dolly are all decked out in red, white and blue-he in a red-and-white striped shirt, blue pants with white stars and an Uncle Sam top hat; she in a red-and-white striped jumper, blue blouse with white stars and a Statue of Liberty crown. Their dog, Forgetful, and cat, Fearful, join them on the pages of the book. Each of the colorful pages takes the reader through activities on Lucky Star.
Most of the items on the pages are labeled for beginning readers. The Farm and Garden page labels a cow, fence, basket, rooster, hen, wheelbarrow, as well as lemonade coming from a spigot on the lemon tree! While Lucky Star does not represent Earth, by all outward appearances, things are quite familiar. However, the children in this book seem to make their own rules, as they sleep in the day and eat whatever they want.
The CD that comes with the book features a song, which sets the words of the book to music. It is a lively tune, and children should enjoy singing along with it. The same tune is repeated several times on the CD. The author/illustrator Suzy Goodman Pollack uses the stage name Suzy On-Cue. She also wrote and performed the music on the CD.
Young children will likely find this book and CD to be a lot of fun.
